Henry all-weather vs. Marlin 1895?

Looking at getting a new brush gun and I’m stuck between the two. Comparable MSRP, I prefer the Henry aesthetic but prefer the load gate on the Marlin. Anybody on here have an experience with them? Anybody on here even have any idea what I am talking about?

They Henry's look nice but I don't think they're all that good as far as how they actually operate

It’s a hell of a lot of power in a big ass round. Necessary for hitting your target through brush, not good for home defense. And there is something beautiful about lever action.

The Marlin or the Henry?

Both, they both fit the same niche and fire the same round. The real difference is how you load it. Henry has a mag tune you have to pull out from the front. Marlin has a gate just above the trigger.

I didn't know Henry made a 45/70
Personally I hate those Henry tube mags but it really boils down to preference

Yeah, I generally prefer not to have to open the thing up to reload it. Maybe I can find someone around here who will let me fire off a few rounds before spending the cash. But yeah, they have made one for quite a while.

By the look, I say Henry all-weather is easier to carry and hold in my opinion.

The Henry one is actually a little bit longer, which isn’t bad, but could make it harder to carry in the brush. But damn it really is beautiful.

They are both beautiful. And that is important, if you don’t love the way a gun looks you won’t take it out as often and it’s not worth spending the money on it. And I think I do prefer the Henry rifle aesthetically. But they are pretty close, and the Marlin just has much a better loading mechanic.

I want to buy another gun. This one will fill a totally different niche. Actually two more but I think I’m more or less settled on the other one. I’m probably going to go with the M&P shield by Smith and Wesson. They each have their own use.

Do you want to buy those guns for defense or hunting?

The Smith and Wesson will be for a CCW. Last time I got shot at I was able to shoot back, and I’m tired of all the media bullshit going on with shootings right now. The 45-70 would be an extremely efferent rifle for hunting but I would honestly use it way more often for target practice. And my other one (AR-15) is a beautifully versatile piece of machinery. But I mostly use that one to keep myself sharp. Could be used for home defense but I hope that day never comes.
