Why is quicksand called quicksand when you actually sink in it slowly?

It's called quick sand, not because of the speed of your sinking into it, but because of the speed at which you shit yourself. The aforementioned shit filling up your shoes and socks is what causes you to sink yet further.
It was originally known as 'shit sand' but this was considered vulgar.
That's a true story. I just made it up.

It's a joke. And you brought up the racial slurs. Don't dish em if you can't take em.
Just call me wienerboy, cause I can dish as good as any caucasian & I do not hold the rice.
Rice? What does rice have to do with weiners? And I hate rice.
Bro said:"It’s just a name. Probably because “quick” just means it moves/flows or means water. I deducted this because Mercury is called quicksilver and it’s original name is Hydroargent (aka Hg) where Hydro means water and Argent means silver. Notice it is still called “quick” although it is much denser and few everyday objects sink in it."
Great answer. Science is hot. Lol.
The faster you move, the QUICKer you die.

Just as @LegateLanius said, unlike regular sand, quicksand is a patched area of sand where it will as the name implies, sink, if you compare this speed to regular unmoving sand, it appears fast, additionally if you do also as he said move fast and struggle, you sink faster because you are basically wriggling yourself into the already formed hole.
loose sands' bulk density is reduced by blowing air through it and therefore gives way easily to weight or pressure. It acts similarly to normal quicksand, but it does not contain any water and does not operate on the same principle. Dry quicksand is an example of a granular material.
Quicksand will be consisting of fine granular material (such as sand, silt or clay), and water. Quicksand forms in saturated loose sand when the sand is suddenly agitated. When water in the sand cannot escape, it creates a liquefied soil that loses strength and cannot support weight.
I have once been trapped in a mud/ clay situation that behaved like this :/ It is rather annoying and can be very tricky to get out of.

What exactly is quick sand and why is it called quick sand? - UCSB...
English.stackexchange.com/.../why-is-quicksand-named-so-if-you-get-sucked-in-so-slowly
meaning - Why is quicksand named so if you get sucked in so slowly...
I actually saw a documentary about this at the gym while I was on the treadmill lol.
I think because it appears to behave as if it's alive, or 'quick'.
You don't hear the word 'quick' used in the sense 'to be alive' much these days, but it is an alternative meaning to the word, as in the film "The Quick and the Dead", where the title played on both of these meanings.
Refer to what @SirRexington gave you. As well, it really doesn't matter if it's at a desert or at a beach or near your car, quick sand can happen ANYWHERE there is sand and water together. I've heard of a story where this guy fell asleep under his car at the beach side and there was water settled on the sand he was laying on and it turned into quicksand and he sank and died right there. It's crazy stuff!
Because you have to be quick and around it and to get out of it. But... also it's because quicksand brings you into a different dimension of time and space so it feels like its slow but it's actually quick and when you think it's slow toward the end you are hallucinating and are actually dying under the sand. It's simple misconception that many people miss.
Hahaha that meme though! So I think this started in the year 1800. Everyone was dancing and singing and moving to the grove when it suddenly hit a guy in the crowd and he started sinking. He was moving so he sunk quicker and they called it quicksand. I am fairly certain it is true!
They should call it sand-filled sink hole instead.

LOL!
It's still better then the Dutch term, which is floatsand
Because people sink very quickly so that's why they call it quicksand. Have you seen Gilligan's Island' reruns you see a lot of that on the TV show
Cause its quicker than you to escape
(Don't know if that made any sense)
Quick at one point meant alive.
So rather than regular sand which doesn't move, quicksand does.
It could also do with the fact that the more you struggle, the faster you go down.
Good question. Because it's quicker than regular sand?
Because they didn't want to hurt its feelings by calling it slow
Because you sink faster in quicksand than in regular sand... 😂
Cue the Social Justice Warriors regarding your pic. They have no sense of humor.
I don't know but now I want to change it to slowsand
Hmm
Because it is quicker than normal sand, hence the name
Because it only traps quick objects..
Quicker you are quicker you will die..
Not too mention you're actually unlikely to die.
Wasn't because " quick" is from a Spanish/Portuguese word - or something- that means life? So lifesand ie takes your life but doesn't more times than not.
you sink it it quicker than you would in other sand
Because the more you move and try to free yourself the more you sink.
I mean you sink quicker in it than you would in normal sand
because sinking in sand is way faster than other soils
Google is your friend
😘😁😁
Don’t invite me to this.
That joke hurts my soul
Because it displaces quicky
This is a very good scientific question.
Because you sink much faster than in slow sand.
