Why is the Mercedes G-Wagon so overrated?

I live in a country where G wagons are very popular, yet very expensive. I don't understand why people (especially rich people) like it so much? In my opinion, it's one of the ugliest cars I've ever seen! It looks like a shoe box. Any idea why is it so expensive? And does anyone actually think that it looks good?

Yeah they popular in the UK, we call them "Chelsea tractors" as they were/are popular amongst posh mums taking kids to school... most of these cars are over priced for what they are and rarely get a speck of dirt on, they are status symbols.

Its sad because they origin was quite pure, a vehicle to use off road for farmers and such. Get a Dacia Duster, its like a 10th of the price and great for taking the dogs out in
