What's your ethnicity?

Question

I don't know mine for sure. But I know my mom's side of my family is from Africa and some are Native American. I got a bit of pacific islander or Hispanic from my dad's side. My dad is an orphan so he doesn't even know for sure. And I can't ask him to do a test because... 👄 he still at the store.  But I pretty much just look like a mixed black guy if you were to see me. Not lightskin, not dark. I can get dOrk tho! But many people say that I just look partially Hispanic. I've even got that hair whorl thing. It's not as glamorous especially in this day and age. White privilege has turned around during this time we are in. which I totally get and approve of. But even my whole life, I've yet to feel the power of my ethnicity. I had no significant treatment that made me feel any more special than the others. People did not lay out the red carpet and I've not had people come up to me naturally wanting to be my friend. Oddly enough, I've had a number of black friends that won over more people and that was 10 years ago...

So being "white" is not always perfect. But to be fair, I don't feel the judgement that others feel. But my life has not been perfect based solely on my ethnicity

I guess it depends on how you look at things. I could talk about my European heritage or my American Indian heritage. But I wasn't raised "White". I wasn't raised being a member of a tribe.

I was raised as an African-American.

To each his/her own.

As for your life, why not lay claim to being "White"? You might be surprised by how people would perceive you.

Got a dna test a while ago and the result where somewhat surprising

55% Nigerian (Jamaica) - my mom has a little prejudice against Jamaicans so I find it ironic that she herself is a little Jamaican

Now someone may wanna argue that Bengali itself is a mix of several other races but I'm actually not that interesting and I don't want to pretend like that. Heritage wise I don't belong to any other ethnicity.

As a U. S. citizen, I'm ethnically Filipino.  Hell, I'm a 1st-generation immigrant with the dual-citizen & PH passport to prove it. As a Filipino, I have no idea.  My appearance is such that even Chinese mistake me as 1 of their own, but my family-name is from Indonesia, directly south of the PH, while both my parent's clans are in the north, closer to Taiwan. And we know none who is Indonesian. I've tried to look into my ancestry from the PH National Archives, but COVID shut them down, and my last communication with them showed that they didn't have the birth-certificates of my grandparents, so my confidence in them having the certificates their parents & those before, I have little. Who was my Chinese ancestor (if any), who was my Indonesian (if any), and was there any else? Until I go back to the PH and find the documents in-person, I won't know.

For anyone around here, I am undoubtedly white, and some people will even get offended if I say I am not.
But in reality, I would fit more into the White Hispanic category of the US. Since I have native American parts and my European blood is Mediterranean, which isn't exactly white for US standards.

Definitely a lot of white heritage coming from Germany, England, Norway, Russia. Grandaddy says there's a bit of Cherokee Indian in there somewhere but I don't know if I believe that.

It's complicated with us Israeli Jews, as many of us are the result of different ethnicities and cultures getting together. My mother is fully "European White" but my father is half that and half "Arabic Jew" (decendents of the Jews who were expelled from the Islamic countries). As it turned out my dad is rather pale but both his sisters are darker (light brownish).
