Does everyone deserve good things to happen in their life?
I think we can all agree that good things should happen to good decent people. Whether they deserve a break now and then or a sports car will obviously vary from person to person. I was raised with this acronym that is more of a philosophical motto I carry , be a R. A. R. E person (Respectful, Accountable, Resourceful and Exceptional).
Manners first but being able to admit you’re wrong and understanding what went wrong is just as important. Always checking whether or not you did harm someone is a valuable thing to carry because it separates you from the arrogant and the inconsiderate.
Nonetheless, I do think people deserve to be happy or least be allowed to pursue happiness. material things should come second in my opinion, if you’re genuinely only happy from material things I would suggest that’s a big problem you should unpack at some point in your life but for me? I’m just happy seeing the wonderful people in my life, laughing around a table of food or casually passing out on your lovers lap from doing dozens of tequila shots with friends (yeah that’s happened to me) 🤣

I honestly think that everyone deserves good things, unless they are really awful people. Maybe I say this because fundamentally I recognize I'm an entitled, privileged and spoiled brat on some things - but I think that recognizing that can be a good way to actually motivate myself to work to earn those things. For example, I don't believe I've earned the home I currently live in - a villa that my in-laws bestowed to me after marriage - but I remind myself to work and put in effort to demonstrate I've earned the right to live in such a home.
To be honest, I don't think that anyone in mine or my wife's family actually deserves what they have, me included. I''d give it all away if I could. I can't talk about real equality and socialism if I live a pampered existence. My grandfather was truly the example about that.
But enough digressions! To get back on topic, I think that everyone, except really awful or evil people, deserve to be happy and have good things.

I said yes because I want good thing to happen to everyone, even if they have been "bad". In fact, I would posit it's possible that people who have been "bad" need good things perhaps a little more desperately than those who have been "good". Unhappy people are more likely to act like jackals, because they are angry or frustrated. But I don't believe anyone "deserves" good or bad, nor do I believe life is "fair" in any way, shape, or form. Nor do I really want it to be, it's fine the way it is, I'll just deal with it. Here's an unhappy dog, who would probably be kinder if he had more hotdogs.
Have you ever lashed out in frustration at an innocent bystander, due to your frustration like the dog in the video? I know when I am feeling low, I tend to act a bit low as well.

Sometimes it is rewarded positively, but I would argue that is a reflection of the sickness of the culture, not the individual. Individuals are simply following Pavlovian conditioning of "Get rewarded, continue behavior. Get punished, cease behavior."

People are usually the heroes (or victims, but always a protagonist of some kind) of their own story. Again, how much does the dominant culture keep them in check, or reward their behavior. More and more I see entitlement and competition being rewarded, and so that behavior continues to grow. We have people virtue signaling and using their minority status to manipulate the system and others. I won't go into detail, but I have a friend who is a POC, who confided in me that she knowingly and blatantly uses her "I'm brown" card to shirk work and avoid responsibility. *not everyone does this, but lot of people just "play the hand they are dealt" so to speak and use what they have as best they can to their advantage, even if it's "unethical" (it doesn't feel unethical to them, with their personal ethics, justified in various ways until the world owes them so hard, it can never be repaid)
Part C: "How much does luck, and interpretation of good and bad luck, colour perception of what is 'fair' and just?" - This is huge and perception is everything. I was 19 years old, living on my friend's couch, working for just above minimum wage as a prep cook, driving a beater truck held together with baling wire. I was really excited about life and felt so lucky and happy to be close to good friends, working with another good friend and moving up from washing dishes, and that I even had a vehicle and it was kind of badass it was such a piece of crap I was able to paint the hood with a giant yin-yang symbol without fear of decreasing its value lol.

I realized one day that someone else with my exact same life might lament all the terrible afflictions of poverty, recent break up with a girlfriend, etc. That it was all about perspective. That was my epiphany moment about gratitude.
Some people have so much, yet they are miserable. They are treated well, but whinge about the slightest imperfect interaction where someone was less than enlightened. They have resources galore and complain about boredom.
I wish everyone could have a healthy, happy childhood and grow up to be loving and joyful. But that's just not reality. Some people are born with mental or physical problems. Some are born into extreme poverty. Some have damaged parents who mistreat them. Others experience major trauma.
The question of "good things" is tricky. Does it mean fancy homes, cars and clothes? Or could a person in a "little house on the prairie" be even more happy?
I do think that good things should happen to everyone. Absolutely. But those good things could be friendship, a mentor or care giver, being loved, or even simple acts of kindness. Hell, a good thing could be appreciating a beautiful sky, a flower growing out of a crack in a sidewalk, or a loyal pet.
The thing is, good things don't happen constantly. Happiness isn't perpetual. Everyone's life has ups and downs. So it's incumbent on each individual for find happiness. They can either focus on what they want (don't have) or be grateful for what they do have.
I've known people who were happy with very little. And I've know people who were very fortunate and privileged but still miserable and ungrateful. Compare Scrooge to Cratchit.
Does Hoda Kotb "Deserve" 20-something million dollars per year to host a morning show on television? I know people who graduated High School with more education than her and Savannah combined who are poor as dirt right now, and probably better people too. Hoda once implied that she couldn't live without millions of dollars and "God always gave you what you need" to finish the statement. If she can't live on $50k per year, she doesn't "Deserve" one million per year. She was essentially re-phrasing a false prosperity doctrine of the modern Christian church, which claims that if you are "good enough" and also "give enough to the pastor" then God is somehow obligated to give you ten or one hundred times as much money back at a later time. This is nonsense. God does not need anyone's money to do a wonderful work in anyone else's life anyway. If you want to help the poor, fine then do so, but don't expect your actions to magically change God's mind or motive for why he does things the way he does them.
Some people deserve poverty because they refuse to work. Some people are poor because they are too sick to work. Some people deserve death because they are murderers and rapists.

Again, that concept is only meaningful depending on the personal values of whoever is deciding whether a thing is deserved.
Considered at an extremely shallow and personal level, most people would probably agree that “good” people “deserve” “good” things happening. But if you ask a hundred different people to define “good” people and things, and explain how “Deserving” works, you’ll probably get about 300 different answers This renders MEANINGFUL discourse virtually impossible.
Deserves is a concept that creates a lot of drama and misery. It only exists in the mind. It’s a judgement that the universe is unaware of.

it's like you said, "luck" plays a big role in so many things that we perceive as fair and just and that's not simply luck either... it's a very complex set of circumstances that we call "life"
for example one in every seven people alive, is "destined" to extreme poverty, and I mean extreme... they will hardly or never ever will consider or be able to comprehend the concept of happiness, joy or even love... and all six other people will never ever care for real, to do enough and solve that or stop that from happening

Yes, everyone deserves a good life becuase all other alternatives result in absurdity. We are on no position to judge others for what they have done because we've all hurt someone or or done something bad before. The nature of actions it's so complex, it's hard to argue that you would act differently to a really bad person if you removed your own experiences and had experienced the everything they experienced. It's similar to the argument that if Hitler didn't start WW2, another angry post-WW1 German survivor would've. Not many appreciate the inherent contradiction in one flawed being condemning another flawed being.
I can't choose so I went with No lol Everyone deserves a good start, like... shelter, food, a loving family, education, etc... However I feel like What we decide to do with these good things, will prove whether or not we are Truly deserving of them and more.
I think if you're kind, hard working and persistent in trying to make something better of your life then yes. But if your constantly loaning complaining and doing sod all then you're not really trying.
Everyone deserves happiness. a reason to live. no matter how bad they've done in life, that happiness would still give them hope to probably become better. work for more happiness.
Everyone deserves an ability to be happy. If a person is robbed of this ability by severe depression, lack of medical treatment, especially mental health assistance, we as a society must provide it. That’s what civilization is based on. We are not animals. We are humans.
You're assuming, from what I take of your question, is that there is an all supreme being that hands out goodies to those he sees fit. NO one "deserves" anything from anything or anyone. Some people have things handed to them as an inheritance. Some of that inheritance is what they learned at their parent's knees. Did they deserve any of it? The parents thought so.

My thoughts on inheritance tax don't enter into this question. Again, I have to state that the question does have a supreme being or a higher power that doles out rewards to certain people, regardless of how they live their lives. I never expected any kind of reward for what I did in life. However, I see people who have not done half of what I did for humanity being "rewarded" with riches or accolades. It makes no difference to me. I live my life and let others live theirs.
No; I don't necessarily believe that. I think that it's a cruel, harsh world. Some people thrive, while others do not. And some don't even survive at all. "Deserving" has nothing to do with it. A lot of evil people are rich.
I believe so. Even though some people can be completely cruel, you never know what thoughts or memories that run through their mind or torment them before bed. So why not? Even they can smile.
I'd say no but even horrible people have better lives than me and a lot of less fortunate people who don't deserve the lives they've been given but here we are. I don't deserve anything good though because life doesn't want me to have anything good..
