It's a wild animal but isn't so different from a dog when it comes to recognition. My supervisor rescued a wolf cub and took care of it for a year until eventually returning it back to its natural habitat.
She visited the wolf as a full grown adult and the animal recognized her. It licked her and acted like a happy dog greeting its owner. So a wolf can recognize like dogs too?

It would make sense. Forty thousand years of selective breeding has changed quite a bit, but they were incredibly intelligent animals even before we teamed up. There's even some evidence that it was just as much wolves as humans thinking "we should team up".

Remember, though, that the wolves of today are the descendants of those who did NOT form that pact with us; they are NOT dogs behaviorally, and you should treat them as such.

From my friend's account that wolf smelled her too. It remembered her scent and wagged its tail. That's similar to what a dog does too.

A lot of wild animals can recognize people. Birds like Ravens and Crows can recognize a persons face. They have also been known to hold grudges against people that mistreat them. So yes there is a chance if you piss off a group ravens or crows they might make it a point to squawk at you and crap on your car every time they see you. Simply because you where a jerk.

This is interesting. If we do something good and care for them... they will also remember that. That wolf even remembered her scent too after it smelled her.

Yes, have similar recognition capabilities and intelligence as dogs, that varies based on the breed. It will recognize someone their owner after years like you mentioned, most mammals can do that, bears, lions, etc.

I would not suggest keeping wolves as pets after a few months of age tho.

My friend noticed the similarities when it smelled her too (along with the tail wagging). It still remembered her smell. Wow

Yes indeed. The animal smelled, licked her and wagged its tail when seeing her... the same thing a dog does. It's interesting how it still remembered her scent.
