How Rare Is Your Last Name?

Question

So I'm Australian and my background is Australian but also German, English and my last name is very English but also with a French background and I never hear it in Australia. My last name is Riviere. I've grown up around Queensland and Perth and never seen anyone else with the last name Riviere before. What about your own last name?

I got a funny story about this one. Until the age of the internet, around the early or mid 90s, my little family of 5 thought that we were the only ones in the world with our last name. Then one day I did a search and found lots of other people with the same last name that we never even knew existed. If I remember correctly, apparently my paternal great-grandfather had a brother that was essentially disowned or cut out from our side of the family and no one ever talked about him. So there's this whole other side of the family. I'm not sure exactly how many because we've never really had much contact given since then. My dad tried to contact some that were fairly close to where we live, but they weren't really interested. It's still fairly rare name that came from Germany.

I've never met someone that I'm not related to with the same last name. I think it's German, but I can't find anything much about it on Google, and what I do find I'm not sure is accurate. Apparently there's <125 people or <100 people in the U. S. to have that last name, and I've had trouble finding it outside the U. S. online.

Pretty rare. There are less than 100 people with that last name in my country and several of those are me and my family.

My last name is extremely rare and it's family name only. No one out of my paternal family line have my last name. I'm not saying it otherwise my dad's pic will come up if you search it. And then from websites you can even know my parents occupation, my home address and networth amount of my parents as they are kind of well known in my state.
