I have visited both countries, whereas Portugal only twice and Spain a number of times.

Therefore, it would be wrong of me to say that Spain is better than Portugal in terms of culture, cuisine, beaches, architecture or friendliness of the people.

I am aware that Spain has to fight much more than Portugal does when it comes to "tourist invasion", mainly the Balearic islands which are overrun by Germans and British. Unfortunately, the youth of those 2 nationals have left a bad reputation, mainly on Mallorca.

I had the pleasure to visit both Madeira and Lisbon and I was honestly amazed at the scenery of Madeira. If @PrettyPriya has the opportunity to visit Madeira in the future, I would highly suggest she takes this opportunity as the mountains are just plain amazing and ideal for long walks and trekking alike.

Spain on the other hand has an extensive history, starting with the former Moorish areas of Sevilla and the Costa del Sol (Sun Coast), extending all the way to Madrid and the adjacent areas of Toledo and Segovia with their architectural highlights.

Both countries are really worth a detailed visit and the choice is entirely yours, based on what you likes are. Both have a great history and kind people.

Hmm, that is a tough one considering I have not been to either country before. Why not both? Seeing as how they are close to each other, wouldn't be hard to visit both countries. If I had to choose just one to visit, I suppose it would be Spain.

I have heard that they have wonderful and beautiful beaches. I am such a beach person that I could not resist. I'm sure Portugal has nice beaches as well, but Spain is a lot more talked about when it comes to that.

There are more things that I would like to visit in Spain. A country with such a rich history and diverse culture is intriguing to me. Spain was on the shortlist of places for my honeymoon but ultimately we chose somewhere else.

Not that someday I would not try to go back to Europe and honestly both countries you listed would be in consideration for me to visit. I think they would be good holiday spots.

That would be so much appreciated. We had talked after we planned our honeymoon about returning to see some of the places that were in consideration before we started a family. We will have to see how that all goes.

If we do get the opportunity to return, those are two countries that were at the top of the list. There just seems like there is so much to see/do not just for relaxation but culturally. When that time comes, I will certainly make use of your knowledge and tips. You were such a huge help for us planning our trip to Greece.
