Why do some girls/guys have a high ego?

Basically at my school so many girls/guys think that so many people have a crush on them and are staring at them when the truth is that not everyone likes them as a crush or is staring at them. A few times some people think other people are staring at them when they aren't and people overthink if someone likes them and these egotistical people think theyre so pretty and that everyone is in love with them. Why do they think this way

Because they haven’t experienced the real world yet so their views are small. Some may be dealing with anxiety which makes them feel like theirs a spotlight on them at all times. But for some, they may feel like they’re one of the “popular” kids and have a high self image of themselves.
