🤔 why don’t we have more colour variation in humans like the birds have?

Humans are such ‘safe choice ‘ colours… yet birds get to grow their own natural purple and orange strips!

I think the bright colors serve two purposes, first to GET the attention of mates that are NOT always around so they have to find each other... and also to advertise how healthy they are as in "look at my colors and how nutritious my genes will be" lol

however, when you mammals in packs that have large social groups that stick together all the time... then there is no need for color, everyone tends to look the same because you need to go far away to "spot" where are all other, lol

There's a difference between skin colour and feather/fur colour. If you shave off these birds, I'm sure they'll be very similar and the variation would be comparable to humans. Same goes for animals.

It is hair that gives us humans variation and we have blacks, brunettes, blondes, redheads and then there's me with lots of grey hair :(

Blondes are least affected by the grey hair because they're least noticeable on you. For us with black hair, it's a different story.

Because our skin color has to do not only with genetics but also with the environment, we live in.
I'm glad we don't have more variation, otherwise we would have more racism and discrimination.

I feel that maybe we wouldn’t tough! Because most birds share the same colours with each other even though they’re different 🤷‍♀️ if everyone was all coloured then you couldn’t judge on colour. That’s my theory anyway 😊

That's a good point! I didn't think about it. Perhaps we are the only species that discriminates. Sometimes I think that animals are superior to humans.

If you look at it we do have similar colors in the human race. There are aborigines in New Zealand, there are darker skin people in the Middle East for a white skin people up northern Europe, there are different colors of skin in Africa , and of course Asia different color there also. And various other Islands throughout the Pacific and Central and South America. We have a tendency to segregate ourselves to be around our own kind.

Skin color in humans is polyallelic, which means it's the result of multiple genes. Skin color is part of the body's defense system. Darker skin has better protection from the sun. Human skin color is not for adornment or reproduction as it is in birds.
