One of the first and cheapest things to do is clean up clutter and work on the landscaping. Pull weeds, cut or remove straggly shrubs, use some weed killer and maybe plant grass seed.

If you are trying to save money, look around the house for things that require labor but not much money. A lot of repairs can be done for cheap or free. Small pieces of trim can be replaced. A lot of wood stairs and railing can be repaired for cheap. Uneven concrete sidewalks can be leveled for free. Concrete can also be pressure washed using a hose with a strong sprayer.

Most other things will start costing money. Paint, roof, windows, etc.

To me, if you have a house that's in need of repair, try you best to repair it, keep it clean orderly without clutter. Lot's of stuff you can do using freecycle, and habitat for humanity stores
