History or future? What is the best path?

So here’s the thing, I was raised by my grandparents. They worked hard for what they got and built. They left me the house I grew up in. I love everything about this place. It’s my home. The downside the neighborhood has changed for the worse. The person I’m seeing wants a commitment and to move somewhere with land. I would love that. But I can’t abandon my childhood home at the same time. I want a future with this person. But I can’t bring myself to give up on my history either.

What about something in between? Perhaps you can AirBnB the place and move somewhere else. That way, you can enjoy your future but always be able to visit the house whenever you want to, and the revenue you generate from renting it out, can go back into maintenance fees and such to keep it in good shape. 🙂

I'm kinda will be in the same boat. My father passed in 2014. My mother is elderly and ill, when she passes what will I do?
Although it is tempting to hold onto the comfort of the past, it is not productive. Life is for the Living, so you have keep doing what they would want and expect you to do! Move on! But take your memories with you!

If I was to input my opinion tho it would be that you shouldn't just drop everything you have for someone you don't know too well, if you know that person is worth it then at the end of the day, the memories are tattooed to your heart and no amounts of pain or sufferment can take them away, just don't sell the house.

The harder part is it means I’d probably leave my dad all alone in the big empty house by himself. It’ll be in my name but he’d be here by himself…

I don't doubt it, it's why I said just don't sell it, the property will still be yours as long as you don't sell the ownership to someone else, the house might lose value if you abandon it because it will start to fall apart after a long time of no maintenance but rebuild is always an option right?

Thing is I'm sure he cares about your happiness tho and he should know that the bird has to leave the nest at some point right

I'm sure he wants you to have a family on your own let's not forget some grandkids as well, there's a lot to lose on both ends but he might see it as a gain, like visiting isn't an option as well

Yea im sure it does, but he did his part as a father and raised you, he can get a dog for companionship, unless you can convince the fiance to maybe stay there or at the very least nearby somewhere, I still don't see why he wants to go to jupiter to find a home, I think as long as you involve your father into things then there's really no room for loneliness

This right here^^. Sell the damn thing. It holds memories but that's just it, memories. I don't think your grandparents would want you to deal with garbage neighbors all the time.

I don't know what to tell you because I have a similar dilemma. Many times I want to leave, but at the same time I would not like to leave my mother.

For me history is basically preparation for our path into the future. Learn from the past to be prepared for the future.

Just keep the home and rent it out
