what happened, life?
- +1 y
Yeah, basically.
I started learning guitar when I as 12. I started surfing the summer after 8th grade.
So when I started high school, I already had surfer friends. Kids who fell into the hippie clique immediately befriended me for some reason.
I got my first car when I was 16, so I was able to drive anywhere and go on adventures. I got together with my first girlfriend when I was 16, too.
I started playing rock music in garage bands (bass, drums, and me on guitar and vocals) and got pretty popular. We played at parties.
I experimented with drugs but never got too into them except for weed. I'm glad I tried psychedelics.
I started going to concerts when I was 16 and probably went to one a week until I was 26. Even then, I went to quite a few until I was about 30.
I started growing my hair long in 11th grade and it got really long. It fit with my rock star image.
I ditched classes once in a while but never got in trouble and still managed to graduate. I started attending community college part time right after high school. I had the same attitude in college as I did in high school. But I took some cool classes and also knocked out some GED requirements.
I always had a part time job.
One friend had a party house with nothing around, so we would be as loud as we wanted. OMG, we used to party there like it was a frat house.
At the same time, I surfed, skateboarded, played frizbee, baseball, basketball, football and other sports with friends, hiked, back packed, went on adventures, and was active all the time.
When I was 26 and a half, I got a corporate job and had to get a regular haircut and start wearing a suit. It took me a about five years to get used to that.
By my mid-30s, I had sort of grown up and stopped hanging out with my partying friends to a great extent, even though I still partied sometimes.
I got married when I was 42 and basically stopped partying aside from dinners, karaoke, wine and cocktail parties with adults, and playing in bands. - +1 y
damn you grew out of it, you think the old friends are still living the same?
- +1 y
I doubt it. You can't keep that up forever. LOL
I'm not in touch with many of my old friends. My wife and I moved away when I was 46.
I think most of them got married and had kids. I'm Facebook friends with my first girlfriend. She's a happy grandma now.
Some are dead. One really good high school friend I stayed in touch with died of Parkinson's about a year ago. My best friend, a guy I met at work, died from a heart attack a few years ago. The best girlfriend I ever had died a few years ago from a sudden medical problem at the age of 55. - +1 y
fair enough π

It was a social thing... like uni parties and things like that. It was the trend at the time and also a way to get my mind of things going on at home. I was a party person at the time because it was considered 'normal' I realised I didn't actually enjoy it. I stopped drinking alcohol except for the odd occasion. I'd rather experience something in its purest form with all my senses and not masking something
- +1 y
well at least you grew out of it, there's lots that still dont i guess lol
