Did you fight a lot growing up? I’m doing a martial arts class that’s based on self defense and it can be awkward getting paired with women

No we didn’t fight. They just know the environment I grew up in and wanted me to be able to protect myself

Not with full force. I’d pull my punches. But even pulling it drops them pretty quickly. And with the throat punch it was only ever a graze because I didn’t want them actually injured.

Both. So if I were kicking them I wasn’t kicking with full force. Same with the throat punch it’s a graze

That’s how we spar in my self defense class, kicks and punches have to be pulled so only light contact is made.

What sucks is even light force to the balls will usually drop us

It’s a little embarrassing when that happens to me in class because then the drill stops at the woman just stands there and waits as I’m on the mat holding Myself in pain

The point of a kick or knee to the groin and the punch to the throat is to essentially go for the kill. A kick to the balls is enough to wind someone all the air leaves their lungs; the throat punch makes it difficult for them to swallow and actually get more air into their lungs. So when my brothers taught it they always said only use it if it’s a me or them situation.

Yeah that’s true, once someone goes down, the match is paused til they recover.

I’m worried I look kinda bad when the woman is watching me curled up holding my balls after a kick

Yeah but I’m like half the age of a lot of these women and most of the time a lot bigger than them.

I do mostly win but every once in a while they’ll land a groin kick and I’ll be down for the count.

What do you think she’s thinking as she watches me hold myself on the mat?

I tried to wear a cup but the women called me out saying for light sparring it gives me an unfair advantage since they aren’t wearing padding

I’d talk to the instructor about that

We are allowed to wear whatever protection we want, the woman who is the instructor said that wearing protection can hurt your ability to protect yourself because you become too reliant on it

Protection or not a hit to a sensitive area will hurt no matter what

Yeah true I guess I’m just embarrassed because this is the first time I’ve been in fights and I’m not used to feeling so vulnerable down there
