You've literally caught them doing something wrong (bullying, cheating, stealing, etc) with your own eyes and they used that line. Why?

Common sense. If there's a 1% chance you can get them to believe you you take that 1% chance what have you got to lose? And guys KNOW how once a woman is bonded to them that she won't want to end that bond. This is also why guys relax once he knows he's got a woman. Eddie Murphy illustrates this in this comedy bit from 1:45 on. 😆
