What is a fear you have that can be seen as irrational?

Dark waters.. Especially, if I know something is underneath me like a boat or an old building or something. Freaks my s*** out. It's very difficult for me to swim in lakes, and even to this day, the drains in big swimming pools that you can't see the bottom of freak my s*** out too, even though they are just drains..
That's understandable. That is very freaky especially dark waters like in lakes. I would fear a crocodile or something is lurking in the water.
I have this exact same fear too. Deep sea honestly freaks me out.
I have a classic for you: A great white in the swimming pool. I am still scared to swim on the deep end. And another one would be getting beheaded in my sleep by a helicopter crashing into my bedroom.
Classic Donnie Darko. I have that fear too after watching that movie!
Haha me too

Deipnophobia. It's the fear of eating in front of others. It makes dating hard and eating in front of new friends harder as well. They say it's a social anxiety disorder than an eating disorder. However people who have had eating disorders can experience it too. But I don't have an eating disorder, yet I know I have social anxiety sometimes so yeah. In my head when I'm eating in front of someone, I just get really self-conscious like the person is judging me the entire time by the way I eat or how I eat. Then I just make myself feel so much anxiety that I cannot eat anymore. It's like that every time I eat with that new person. Eventually the person is going to start questioning what is going on and assume you have an ED. They might get concerned and start making sure you are eating. Honestly that makes it worse for me and most people with this phobia because them putting the problem in the spotlight makes me even more uncomfortable. It's like oh no my worse fears are coming true they think something is wrong with me. We just spiral into so much anxiety it is crippling. The person may be trying to help us but ultimately they're not helping because we are just so fragile that we are shattering even more. Eventually we just stop eating in front of people to avoid this all together or we try really hard to overcome it. However I eat just fine in front of family.
I'm sorry you have that. I had that when I was younger especially as a teenager. I couldn't eat in front of people in the cafeteria so I would usually skip eating lunch.
It's ok, I'm used to it. How did you overcome it? Did you overcome it?
Mine are demonic old women. I watched many horror movies like Saw, Leatherface, Scream, Halloween, & stuff like that by the time I was 5. They somewhat scared me, but Insidious I was too young at 7 to see when it came out. Watching movies like Dead Silence, and both Conjuring movies didn't help either, lmao.
It's not to the degree it's a phobia, but that woman from Insidious or any notion of a supernatural/demonic old woman in a horror movie immediately gives me goosebumps. Also, that bitch has been the most consistent person in my worst nightmares and sleep paralysis ever since I've seen the movie.
This scene made me hate sitting by hallways for a while 😂
Mines is the woman from the nun and just dark figures since I had sleep paralysis so I definitely understand that fear.
Funny you posted a picture of a toilet, because I always think that a sewer rat is going to come out when I'm on the toilet. I don't know why? I heard it happens sometimes 🤷
Yes I'm scared of that happening as well.
That's horrifying.
Well the article said its rare so it's still considered irrational for most people.
OMG! If that ever happened to me I'd drop dead I swear!
@Heather06 same here!
Most people leave brown snakes in the toilet, not fearing they will come out. I don't mind snakes and bugs myself as I have dealt with them when camping for a long time. Maybe being abducted by aliens when camping when I am sleeping on the ground in my sleeping bag? I wanna see those little shits try it and I'll poke their third eye out and make them eat it.
Kudos to you for not minding snakes or bugs but I am deathly afraid of them. Also being abducted by aliens when camping while sleep is definitely irrational.
Using a public toilet/Porta-a-john and the mess splashes up and hits me…🤢🤢🤢…🤮
Yes thats very gross 🤢
Yes I guess it would be rational because many people probably have that fear.
Oh gosh... yes that is gross. I'm so sorry that happened to you.
I have a weird phobia of wind turbines or anything that’s large and moving. Anytime I see a wind turbine it really freaks me out I hate being anywhere near them. Especially at night when they’re blinking in tandem in the distance. Terrifying.
I can actually see that as a fear. Their so weird to me.
I used to think that when I was a child , and if a man with knife sticks it into my butthole coming out of the toilet
but t wasn't a fear more like a thought , so that didn't stop me from pooping
Oh ok. I think I have had similar thoughts as a child.
A fear that the US will go too far and get us into a nuclear war. Just because my fear can be seen as irrational, does not imply that my fear is irrational.
That's true. It doesn't.
That's not irrational. Thousands are bitten by toilet snakes every year.
Didn't know that. That just increased my fear.
😂😂😂😂😂
Actually, that’s a reasonable fear. Because they are known to do that in Florida or Australia. But, who knows these days? They can do that anywhere you go. Or spiders.
Oh ok. I didn't know that. That just makes me feel even more scared now. I live in South Carolina and already seen a snake recently that freaked me out. It wasn't inside my home thank goodness but it was outside of my job.
The square root of 2*Fear...
(2 * Fear)^(1/2)
Approaching people I don't know and introducing myself.
I'm probably not alone, But I still reckon it's Irrational.
Yeah you're definitely not alone in having that fear.
water, like to the point where i’m scared to put my head back in the tub
When I was in the Navy I always had a fear that a wasp would fly into my oxygen hose and into my mouth after I sealed the mask on my face.
@Pοrnytail No, and my fear was irrational. I was walking out of ops one day and saw a wasp crawling around an open can of coke, which was next to my helmet and mask. For whatever reason it put it in my head to always check the hose and mask for "wasps"... pretty silly.
It’s not an irrational fear in Australia. It’s an actual thing here. I’m petrified of heights (like climbing a ladder) but I’m ok to fly 🤦🏼♂️.
Oh ok. I didn't know that.
Snakes generally
Yeah snakes scare the bejesus out of me.
Thankfully we don't have many at all here in the UK
Wow lucky you. We have plenty here in South Carolina, USA. Just saw one not too long ago on my job. It was so scary.
Very scary indeed
Actually we have quite a lot in the uk. Some beaches even have warning signs up because people and pets get bitten a lot. Here's an adder map www.theargus.co.uk/.../
@purplepoppy well I've never seen one. Typical British media scaremongering
You haven't seen one but I guarantee plenty have seen you. British snakes tends to hide when they feel footsteps approaching. I've only ever seen a couple of adders in so called hot spots
@purplepoppy Thanks for the enlightenment 😊. But in comparison to other warmer countries we're in very little danger of serious harm from a snake 🐍 😀
Aliens. Or rather, meeting them. It's based on absolutely nothing, but it terrifies me.
ketchup, get it away from me it is disgusting
Well now i have this fear too😭
Lol sorry
I have the same fear as you.
Glad to know I'm not the only one.
I saw something on the TV when I was a kid and it triggered that on me.
Now I can't go to pee for 2 days.. thank you! 💀
Sorry
I have a fear of contracting a phobia.
You have Phobiaphobia?
@snowboarder720
Yeah... that's IT! 🤣
Needles. They make me faint.
I'm afraid of Alabama Black Snake
I would be too especially the cottonmouth one since it's venomous.
Thats... that's not what that is lol
none
Well that's good.
