When I was younger (around 10 years old or younger), I used to believe success was directly related to financial success and financial freedom; your ability to provide for your loved ones and their standard of life, your option to never work again if you so choose to, and to live a life of luxury (vacations, nice living spaces, any clothes you want, etc).
Now to me, success is basically happiness. If you have achieved the dreams in your life, have a loving and stable family, have hobbies and interests that makes the days feel enjoyable, and have good health... that to me is happiness.
Wise🙂
it is a little bit different, yes...
just a more well rounded and adjusted approach to reality... lol
all part of actually growing up and maturing into a man, in my case
A very good point🙂
when I was young... I didn't quite understand the importance and how much of a difference makes to be debt-free... lol
now I realize it and value it much more
certainly. Being debt free is a blessing
And you know a lot of things we never felt important until we grew up 🙂
that is true...
I learn a lot about commitment and motivation. It was a game changer for me in perceiving success.

At least somewhat, or maybe you could say I have more information and context now around which to frame my definition even if my fundamental criteria haven't changed.
When I was younger I was very singularly-minded, tunnel-visioned perhaps. Become the best student, best athlete, become the best worker. That's success. Why? I didn't know. I just sort of went with the flow of things, maybe typical Japanese student. It was expected of me.
Fast-forward to now as a married guy and at least I know why: to protect and take care of my family. Being successful at protecting and taking care of my family is my whole definition of success now.
I think I vaguely had the idea of doing all this to eventually protect my family as some fuzzy part of my mind subconsciously when younger. At least I always had the goal of marriage starting from a little boy. Yet I didn't very consciously have this context to where I could so easily explain why I'm doing what I'm doing back then. I mostly just did what was expected of me.
So marriage added a whole new context and sense of purpose to my life that I didn't have before and it simplified my idea of success substantially.
Yes, how I see success has changed as I got older. When I was young, success meant doing things well and getting noticed. Now, it's more about feeling fulfilled, having good relationships, and doing things that matter to me. It's not just about what I achieve but how it fits with what I believe in and makes my life better.
Success is more about being happy and less about what others think I should do. Whilst I've always wanted to be a father and husband that's married for at least fifty years, if I can at least be mostly happy during the time I have left, I might as well consider that to be success.
Everyday, I think that it's more unlikely I will accomplish my dreams, so I should just try to find things to occupy my time and provide some solace.
Success when:
younger: High body count, nice cars, expensive clothes, muscles
Now: Money, Investments, Good at what I do by trade, Kindness, Chairty work, giving,
Awesome🙂
What about you?
When I was young I used to think that success is mainly related to financial independence, now I think it is more related to how to create a good relationship with the people I love the most and how to be effective in a good way in life. And financially stable
I tried investment and I suck at it😁😁
Very true,
My method is finding someone who does it damn well and follow their steps. Easy with Gold
Yeah, i might do that as well👍🏻
No not really, I always defined it on being successful in something I am doing. So I could take any aspect of what I am doing and consider that a success or a failure. I don't think very absolutist, sure things I wanted failed but those aren't game over scenarios. So all in all I am still in a positive trend, and I have always seen it that way.
I was very goals focused, getting exams results, getting to uni, getting degree etc and also sports orientated. I had lost a lot of focus on me and actually enjoying life and simply living it. These days I am less goals focused (I still have them) but more about living life. I do volunteer work, I holiday more and enjoy myself as and when I am able to. Success earlier was about me, now it’s more about others.
if you don't need anyone for anything you are successfull, if not you are not.
👏👏
I understood what you meant and that's why I clapped 🙂
Yep. Now it's measured in how much free time I have. I took a roughly 70% pay cut so I could spend more time at home and be with my rescue kittens. Don't regret it for a second.
Of course. As a student it was getting good marks. As an adult it is getting good quantifiable results at work. Perhaps it hasn't changed on reflection.
Beyond everything your health is wealth. Doesn’t matter if you have a ton of money if you don’t feel good so prioritize that as much as you can. Aside from that just making a good living doing something that won’t drive you too crazy.
When I was younger it was "He who has the most toys wins" Now that I am older it is more about raising a family and living well.
No, but the effective methods/steps to acheive it changed a bit as society changed and put up obsticals and advantages.
Younger me thought success was like 100 dollars 💀
Now it’s basically just to be happy
Epic🙂
Totally
How?
When I was a kid I was falling for all that brainwash stuff society tried to implement in children's minds, work, financial stability a woman And you are set for life, then I started thinking outside the box and realized society builds workers, and only a few break out of that bubble, now success for me is a wife, financial stability, a business and the ability to seek for more opportunities to grow wealth, use some of that wealth to better other people's lives, then teach others to repeat the cycle, at least to my children.
True
You said society builds workers, I say society builds slaves to the money holder
Yep the reason I didn't say slaves is to respect the actual slaves that were enslaved to work for free
Gotcha
