The difference between "about" and "around"?

Elevation difference is around 1000 meters

Elevation difference is about 1000 meters

Meaning difference?

If "about", then it can't be higher than 1000

But if "around" it can be both lower and higher?

I don't know for sure but I would say its the same thing, with a minor difference.

"Around" being more of a rounded number, so instead of saying 9982 you say around 10.000

While "About" would be more of a guessed number. Its smaller than this but taller than that so i guess its about 1000.

Maybe its also an American English and British English thing, where on one continent they more often use "about" and on the other continent they use "around" more often...

There's no difference. They both mean "approximately". I feel like "about" is a bit more formal, but I don't know why.
