Which Frontier: Deep Sea or Space?

Only 25% of the seafloor is currently mapped, but an initiative called Seabed 2030 aims to get to 100% in just over 6 years (thus the 2030), which would be a huge step for humans. However, only 5% of the ocean has been explored.

Humans can only free dive (nom equipment) to a maximum depth of 40 metres and the recommended depth is around 18-30 metres.

Commercial divers working in underwater construction or salvage operations may go as deep as 300 metres or more.

And the deepest recorded dive was 332.35 metres.

What people should know is that there is that humans are NOT meant for that kind of pressure and deeper dives can increase the risk of decompression sickness, also known as "the bends" which requires careful ascent and decompression stops. Increased pressure at greater depths can also affect gas absorption in the body, impacting breathing and overall health.

The pressure of water can be so great that even standard structural steel can only withstand about 1000 metres of depth before its structural integrity fails.

They have developed a specialized marine steel that can handle the pressure from depths of up to 6000 metres though. But it's still going to be difficult task to map the entire seafloor as sonar isn't effective due to the pressure and light doesn't reach past 200 metres. Past 1000 metres there's total darkness.

The funny thing is, so far humans have only discovered about 5% of the universe as well. The remaining 95% of the universe is stuff that we can't see and some maybe not even understand. The OBSERVABLE universe is about 93 billion light years in diameter and the farthest known galaxy we've found is 13.1 billion light years away. For perspective, a single light year's distance is roughly equivalent to traveling around the Earth 236,000 times.

From this information alone, I'd definitely choose space. There's much more to explore and see and there's likely to be many more phenomenons that we can't explain or understand than in the ocean. Also... not a fan of total darkness that the ocean offers after 1000 metres 😂

Both of them are potential suicide missions, every trip could be your last. I'll settle for going on a nice road trip. I can pull to the side of the road and get out of the car without having to worry about crushing water pressure or the vacuum of space popping my brains out of my skull.
