Its been bothering me a bit, from your experience and wisdom, was it an attempted robbery, carjacking or genuine help needed?

I was at a drive through ATM on Monday afternoon around 5 or 6 something with other cars out there and two women standing outside waiting to use the ATM and a guy pulls up in a car all by himself and asks me can I give him a dollar as he will ask other people for a couple of more dollars because he needs gas for his car.

He had nothing in his hand and wasn't acting aggressive, maybe a bit nervous and said something random about me having a German car (which I have an Audi) and stood about maybe 3 or 4 feet away from my car window which is dark tinted and the window was up waiting til see if I would give him something which I lowered my window a bit and did give him something and he said thanks and left in his car.

It was genuine help needed.

It was a potential carjacking.

It was an attempt robbery but the guy choose not to go through it at the last second because he probably saw the two ladies at the last minute

That's just a classic bum move you see a lot in cities or poor areas. In nyc they're professionals at it because they'll ask for a dollar "that's all I need man!"

And then be like "you got 3 more?" 😂 every time.

A car jacking will usually involve someone or something getting in front of your car. Be extremely weary of any situation where your instincts make you feel boxed in or trapped. They'll throw eggs on your windshield which smear when you hit the wipers. Or get you at a red light and a pickup will pull right in front of your car.

All of a sudden you're surrounded by people with guns. Always have multiple paths to make an exit just in case.

In your case, you're at a bank, there's cameras, probably nice cameras. I don't think most guys are hitting a lick at the bank using the "can I hold a dollar" gimmick. Still good to have your guard up.

I just say no always in situations like that.

You don't want to engage with them because that's when they attach themselves to you, and as you say, you don't know their intentions.

The help they need definitely isn't £2 from me. Which they'd probably spend on drugs anyway.

He was looking to see what he could get away with. Had you rolled down your window completely, he may have hijacked you and your car, ending in potentially very bad things.

Didn't your mother teach you not to talk to strangers?

I know. But sometimes people do really need help and you don't want to turn away your ear from those that need it.

I think I made a mistake but I will just take it as a learnd lesson.

And you will be surprise how quickly these type of situations happened catching totally off guard.

there's a chance they could be screening you first, and they will get you later

or maybe, they just were out of change, that happens... lol

Typical scam. They'll ask hundreds for a dollar or two and then at the end of the day drive off in a late model Cadillac.

It was mooching for money. I have a weapon so I would not be afraid. I just don't like moochers.
