Men: Do you know how to read the room, or are you just selfish or what?

I see male posters here saying they're afraid to approach women due to the Me too movement, being perceived as creepy, and overall rejection.

My advice: learn to read the room. Approach women in appropriate settings. There is a time and a place for everything. How would you like it if a woman wanted you to talk while you're fixing your car, working out, playing video games, or watching sports?

"Read the room" is too generic. Even at events like galas, parties, etc. there will be people who don't want to be approached. Someone might get miffed at a grand opening of a local park, a time for the community to come together. Ultimately, the question is whether a specific individual wants to be approached, which without cues from that person (and sometimes with them) becomes a guessing game. If someone is asking about approach then hopefully they've advanced beyond the obvious "don't approach in a parking lot" scenarios.

The given examples vary too. Working on a car? Probably not while working on internals, because it can be dangerous work, but if it's something like washing the exterior then sure. Watching sports? If you want to watch and talk about it too, that's great. It's the micro context in appropriate places that sensible people are inquiring about.

Galas are social events. If you discuss the right topics people don't mind being bothered in such a space. If you're just going up to her saying ," hey gorgeous.. let's do coffee.. you look stunning". Ofcourse she won't want to be bothered

I know how to read a room pretty well. I don't think it's too hard either. People that don't know how just don't want to learn. It takes like a day of being around people

Being able to "read the room" is far easier for women than men, because men are more straight forward and honest. For men, reading the room means reading women's minds. Sorry ladies, but men will never be able to read your minds.
