It does exist theoretically; it's just that they do not test it on humans. For ethical reasons, they edit the genes so the animal doesn't have enough intelligence and make animal hybrids.
They could probably make an animal-human hybrid, but they would do that for ethical reasons. Our technology can theoretically do it.
But if they allowed it, I would test it on a clone of myself with the strength of an ancient human. I would only use it on clones of myself.
We actually aren't quite there yet technologically. We can insert a few genes here and there to make a minor change in animal embryos, but we can't splice in drastic changes to an adult.
Humans are animals by the way, and most non human animals have enough intellect to feel emotions, so ethics are actually better doing it to adult humans that choose to do so rather than another species that cannot voice consent or opposition.
As for the clone thing, your clones would be babies and grow up the way you did. Not exactly practical or ethical to grow people just for the sake of genetic testing..
Also you would have trouble finding viable DNA that old to use on them.
