Can shooting guns be a coping mechanism? If so, how?

It's completely natural and part of how humans have evolved. It's no different than kicking a ball into a net, or throwing a dart at a dart board, playing pool, or any number of ways that people throw, shoot or roll things, trying to hit a target.

Take a young child to a river with some pebbles laying around, and they will start throwing the pebbles into the river. If a log floats by, kids will start trying to hit the log. If multiple kids are there, they will compete with each other to see who hits it first. No words need to be said, it will just happen.

It's part of our natural instinct as humans.

A lot of people have a stigma about guns. But it really is no different than hundreds of other activities. Just because someone has an unwarranted stigma about guns does not make shooting them a coping mechanism.

If you can't cope with your nagging partner, the neighbours kids playing too noisy or someone at work using your milk then a gun is a great coping mechanism that'll make your problems melt away.
