Do you like industrial landscapes?

Kind of a random thought, but it crossed my mind tonight as it has before.

Probably not very green of me, haha, but I have kind of an affinity for very industrial looking scenery.

I took this picture last night. Turned my car around and pulled over in an unfriendly parking spot to take it. It didn’t quite capture the darkness of the night sky, and hopefully you can pick up the water in the distance, but other than that, I’m very captivated by it. It’s like the visual answer to: “if you followed all of those big power line towers you randomly see cutting through wilderness, where would they lead you?” Found the powerhouse, haha….

There’s smoke/steam coming out in the bright area too, it looked so cool

But yeah, I’m a sucker for 20th century, maybe even late 19th century industrial buildings and structure. The more rusted out, the better. Love an old warehouse that local kids have obviously been throwing rocks at the high windows of for fun😝 One of those places you’d love to explore but would be afraid of all the bats and raccoons that are probably living in there, lmao. Or any kind of mill. I love a good mill😂

Piers are good too. Anywhere you could find a “longshoreman”😂

Terrified of heights, but I love cranes😂

Or an unsung hero, an old rusted out cannery. I think I remember a Tom & Jerry cartoon from when I was a kid that was set in a cannery like this, and it was one of my favorites…

I don’t know, not great question material I guess, just wanted to show some cool pictures, haha. But do you like this sort of scene? Or is it too dilapidated looking for you? I find it ugly-beautiful, haha

I can kind of see where you're coming from. The second one is interesting for what it evokes. Almost like a time in America's heyday when it was on top, and was confident and sure of itself.

However, generally, I don't like industrial landscapes. I seek peace in the English countryside! Hillocks and sheep is more my game. Less and less toleration of the insanity of society. How we get bombarded and blitzed with information. How the media weaves narratives and perpetually tries to keep is in a state of fear.

So yes, bring on the sheep. England's green and pleasant land.

No! I prefer greenery and open spaces. A place like Mumbai or New York sounds like a concrete jungle hell. You can only like the view at night. The beautiful view of trees and plants during daytime is unmatched. Those mundane looking buildings can’t replace that.

I can understand that. I prefer nature too, but I’m also a city kid, so urbanity doesn’t offend me, and feels like home. So industrial views aren’t too far of a stretch from there.

Nature will always be the greatest show on Earth though🙌

Did you take all of those photos? I don't know that I'm particularly a fan of industrial landscapes, but I am a fan of photography and the composition of that photo is kinda mesmerizing on so many levels. You've got an artistic eye.

I only took the first one of the power line towers that cross the inlet.

The others are just examples I found on the internet😅

But thank you! (If you meant the first pic😝) I was driving past and thought it looked cool and unique, kept going, but then decided to turn around, because why not? Came out pretty decent for something I snapped kind of quickly. Glad I took it, in retrospect👍

Yes, that first pic is really, really nice. I would hang that on my wall along with the pic I took of the Golden Gate Bridge with the presidio fort right under it in the fog. It could be part of a modern Americana collection.

Agreed, there’s a bleakness to it. I like to pass by it, but not see it all day, haha

Not a huge fan but I respect they're needed. There's a huge oil refinery wirh docks not far from me which looks spectacular lit up at night reflecting on the river.
