We are already born with fur. This is a common misconception people have about humans. We have just as many hair follicles as monkeys. Because we are monkey's. We only appear mostly hairless because our follicles are quite small and produce fine things hairs instead of the thick matt in most other mammals.

But make no mistake. The hair on is and the hair on a dog is the exact same kind of fur. So we are all born with fur.

On the other hand. If you mean would we choose to thicken our fur or have feathers or scales. I think I would go with feathers. They are light and airy and would help with staying cool in the summer and giving insulation in the winter.

Course that all depends on how the feathers manifest. If they are tiny and thin and useless like our fur then there's really no point. If they effectively give us wings then that's useful. Course there's also the problem of the wings making it harder to correctly use our hands and fingers.

I dunno man. It's kind of a toss up depending on a lot of factors

Feathers sound like the most fun to me. Even more awesome if I could actually fly, but even without flight having feathers just sounds fun. Especially with like the pillow fights full of feathers and the such. Or using a feather as a pen.

Fur to me sounds somewhat boring. Technically humans already have fur, kind of. The hair on our head is a type of fur for sure. As are beards for guys. And there are some really hairy guys out there (and even some women!) who look like they have literal fur. Especially if they have tons of chest hair and back hair.

As for scales... I've heard before that feathers are basically a really advanced type of scale anyway, so why would I want the inferior scales? Lol. Like that dinosaurs were reptiles with scales, but they ended up becoming birds with feathers. Reptiles and birds seem to have a lot in common to a certain extent. If you've ever seen a bird without feathers it does look like some sort of weird reptile.

Fur would be to protect myself from cold.
Feathers would be to be able to fly (well, in most cases, with ostritches and maybe chickens being an exception).
Scales are best used for underwater.

Honestly, it's a touch call between the first two. I would love to fly, but I would need to save myself from the cold, but then again, unlike flight, there are multiple ways to protect myself from the cold without fur. So I will have to go with feathers.
