I wouldn't want to be a hero, it's would be cool in the beginning, you solve important issues, but when the public loves you, the expectations increase. They expect you to please them all the time, if you don't run to help that old lady who can't find her dentures on a Sunday morning the society will kick your ass in seconds, then they will make fun of you in the newspapers saying "our hero can't run to cases because she gained weight" or "guess who showed up at McDonalds while the city was burning" etc.
People are ungrateful.
