What's it raining when it really rains?

When it's bucketing down with rain outside what is the idiom in your country. For example,

In British English
It's raining cats and dogs

In Dutch
Het regent pijpenstelen = it's raining pipe stems

In French
Il pleut des cordes = it's raining ropes

In welsh
Mae hi'n bwrw hen wragedd a ffyn.= it's raining old ladies and sticks.

My Mexican friends will say "Lloviendo mucho" pronounced yo-BYEN-do MOO-cho which is simply raining much, or "Mucha agua" or much water.
Texicans, being prone to colorful speech might say something like "Gullywasher" prefaced by"come a" or perhaps a "Toad strangler" while asking if you were aware that "Turkeys are so stupid they'll stand in it lookin' up til they drown" which is, of course, not true, But Texicans are prone to a little hyperbolic tales. Pecos Bill is a fine example of Texas tall tales.

In Croatian it’s lije kao iz kabla. Literal translation in English is “It’s pouring as from the bucket”.

Scottish / German here. Fun fact. You can drive an S2000 in light to moderate rain with the top down. As long as you can keep moving at a steady 55-60 mph, airflow coming over the hood and windshield just swooshes the raindrops away. My SLK55 could do it too but not quite as well.

We have a few, and some might be regional. “Cats and dogs”, “buckets”, and “pouring” are fairly common.
I’ve heard “pissing” and “whipping”, though the latter might suggest windy rain more than lots of rain. I heard one old lady refer to “calamitous” rain and another, a plague. The second was insinuating that it sounded like it was raining frogs, and was more than a little miffed that i had to ask. Ell oh ell!
I’ve always liked “torrential downpour”. I so rarely get to use it anymore. 🥺

There's another one in Dutch that literally says: the heavenly gates are wide open.

Another one would translate as “Dog weather” when it's really cold, wet, and unpleasant.

In Flemish, set aside the most used "Het regent pijpestelen", I sometimes heard "Het regent oude wijven" (It's raining old wifes).

Interesting because "hen wragedd" is better translated as "old wifes" and a lot of Flemish settled here in the 1400s.
