If you hear a strange noise outside your home at night do you go investigate it or just let it go?

Sometimes ill check it out. usually its just a raccoon or something

I would assume it's the bat knocking the window. There are many bats living in the guava tree of my garden.

If its random noise from street, I'll assume it's the dogs.

If it's something genuinely suspicious, I'll check from windows and go back to sleep unless it's something serious.

But most of the time, I don't even hear half the things.

They sometimes enter my home and stay hidden in a corner for several days and start flying around a random evening freaking out everyone.

I go check it out by looking out the windows, lol, I don’t go outside though. I investigate to make sure it’s nothing harmful for my kid, and it’s not someone damaging my car.

Thankfully no, but I have dodgy neighbours so it’s not out of the question. There’s also a lot of car thefts that get reported in surrounding streets.

If i hear something outside my house I will first check all my cameras. If it's just an animal I'll let my dog out so he can chase it out of my yard. If there's a person, im getting my byrna gun and going outside ready to shoot

This is a question for people in rural areas. I live in Seattle. There are noises outside all the time.

Im talking noises that are right outside your home, like your yard or front porch or something

I don't have a yard or a front porch. I have a hallway and an elevator behind a locked door to the street. It would be really unusual for there to be an unexpected noise in the hallway.

90% of strange noises outside are cats. Other remaining 9.5% are other wild animals, at least where I live. Yes thats not 100% total but so close I dont care
