Yes… Only once. And of course it had to be the most awkward bathroom call ever.

My ex fiancé called me after a year of no contact. I had a broken leg at the time and was literally in the bathroom when my phone rang. It was so unexpected I just froze and answered. Couldn’t risk not knowing what that call was about.

He told me he was back in our city, that everything came rushing back to him… And that he remembered our time so vividly, that we used to be so happy there, that he has never been happier in life. He even said he was standing at my favorite restaurant and asked if he could video call me to show me around with “I miss you, baby.”

For a second it felt like time stopped.

But then, I realized I didn’t belong there anymore. I had already grieved that part and left it in the past.

So I told him it was nice to hear from him, wished him a good trip, and said I’d rather leave things in the past.

When he hung up, I did have a single tear, but it wasn’t sadness.

It was relief. The kind where you realize you’ve already moved on, even if a part of you didn’t know it yet.

It was an emotional call because at that time I realized that even leg broken and helpless as I felt at that time, I no longer needed him or that call. And that he was late. A week later I met my second love.
