None of the above. I carry a hiking staff about 66" long made from 1.25" diameter Hickory wood. It's extremely hard and tough. It has brass ferrules top and bottom to prevent the wood from splitting. The bottom ferrule also has a rubber foot that can be unscrewed to reveal a metal spike. The spike can be better on bare rock or it can make a pretty effective weapon. There's a wrist strap to assist grip and control. I made it myself. It's covered in a dark mahogany stain and about 20 coats of tung oil. That "stick" has saved my ass 100 times during water crossings in rocky bottomed streams and steep descents on wet trails when I had 55-60 lbs on my back.

As for Phasmids surprisingly I don’t think I have ever seen one but on the other hand maybe I saw one & didn’t really notice. I’ve seen a lot of praying mantises especially on my screens. I’ll have to keep looking for a walking stick. Nice photo by the way.
