When I played semipro football, I was one of the only white dudes on the team, but I’m a hip-hop head, I grew up in the city, etc, so I was there for about ten minutes of try-outs before they decided I was “Slim Shady”, lmao, or usually just “Shady.” I’m also blond, and I wouldn’t say I look like Eminem, necessarily, but we have a similar nose, I guess?

I don’t know…. I've gotten the comparison from strangers a few times before, so probably not spot on, but not outlandish either. And it’s contingent on him having his hair bleached. I don’t look anything like him these days.

Anyway, I didn’t mind that one. The team just kind of quickly adopted me, so I think that’s part of it, just the good memories I have with all these teammates, most of whom probably didn’t even know my government. I like my name, but “Yeah! Good hit, Steve!” is boring on-field celebrating. Picking myself up off someone while everyone is running up yelling shit like “WOOOOOOO!!! SHADY-AFTERMATH!!!” is way more hype, haha.

I even got “Shady” inscribed on my championship rings instead of my real last name, because that’s just who I was on that team😝
