I love the butterflies that visit our flowering bushes in the spring and early summer. They love out large rosemary bush that blooms in early spring. They go crazy for our citrus blossoms. And they love our chaste bushes that bloom in early summer.
We even have milk weed for the monarchs but rarely have monarchs here.

I don't associate butterflies with butter or vice versa, though.

Well I toss butter for sport so yes I can see why we named it after those moths with pretty wings.

As for the association of butter with a butterfly YES I would associate butter with a butterfly & it dates back to butter- colored wings on butterflies & you can thank the Brimstone Butterfly for that one.

NO. But the etymology does and derives the name for butterfly from butter.

I am really surprised because I have never seen insects go for milk products.
