Is flavored vodka still as strong as regular vodka?

Just sitting here sippin on some cherry vodka and cherry crush and was wondering if the flavored one is just as strong as the regular one ?

Typically, yes, it is the same... just with added flavoring.

You can purchase alcohol of differing strengths. Look at the proof, which is a measure of alcohol content. The higher the proof, the higher the alcohol. To compare to wine or beer's alcohol percentage, divide the proof by 2. 80 proof vodka is 40% alcohol. Some alcohols are diluted for sales in grocery stores (depending on state law) to 40 proof (20% alcohol). Some vodkas are sold at higher 100 proof (50% alcohol).

weird state laws we can get everclear here that's 95% alcohol or 195 proof.

I agree that there is a wide variety of differences from state to state regarding alcohol sales. NPR just had a story about Connecticut's prohibition of Sunday sales... I think it is one of only two states.

standard strength unflavored vodka is 80 proof.

the standard strength for most flavored vodka is 70 proof. this is because the flavoring agents take up volume in the bottle, so due to the laws of physics, flavored vodka, with serving size constant, will be 12.5% weaker.

To give a comparison...

...7 shots of regular vodka = 8 shots flavored vodka.

Therefore, it's not a bad trade off for an awesome flavor like cherry. :)

i think flavoured vodkas are tricky.. because you drink them and you like them because they are not that strong flavoured, they can actually taste good, so you end drinking more than you would w regular vodka, and they have the same or similar % of alcohol

conclusion: you get wasted and not knowing how was it possible,

This is not necessarily correct. Flavored vodkas from the same distiller are usually the same proof.

I've got triple distilled Smirnoff and the flavored triple distilled the flavor has less alcohol ... Read the bottle.

I think flavored spirits are usually not as strong as non flavored spirits.

Look at the bottle at the "proof"

If it says 80 proof, it is 40% alcohol. That is a common amount. If it says 60 proof, it is 30% alcohol. The proof is always double the amount of alcohol percentage.

So just look at the number and see if it is higher or lower then 80 proof, because 80 is normal

u shouldn't drink if you can't read the bottle. It tells you the %/proof. Yes it varies. Like uv vodka is a lower percent then most other which are around40%

80 would seem like a random number to a new alcohol drinker.

white normal vodka has about 40% alcohol.

other colos (and flavors) have around 20%.

It doesn't change Smirnoff vodka is 40% whether its watermelon flavored or unflavored. Depends on the brand, etc.
