I wonder if girls do this intentionally when they like a guy. Would you or have you ever subtly touched him. for instance brushing your arm against his or if you are sitting down next to each other have your leg touch his leg?

Yes, if I like a guy I will try to sit next to him so I might get to touch him like tap his shoulder or touch his hand when I pass him a pen then make a joke like 'quit trying to hold my hand' and usually they grab your hand after that and I melt! lol dorky stuff like that

Yes, but this really only happens if I'm shy around him (he makes me nervous). If I'm not shy, I will just go up to him and hug him

I guess it's because, If I feel affection for him- I am affectionate towards him. I don't think and do it, It's just a natural thing. If I like someone, then I'd enjoy being close to him, I'd enjoy touching him, Even if it's just innocently.
