What Does it Mean when A GUY just Textes you Hey! :/?

Hey GUYS and Girls can you please tell me what does it mean if you didn't text a GUY for a whole day and he textes you first with just "Hey!" and nothing else? What does that mean? Do guys do this if they like a girl or what? I haven't texted him back yet as I have no idea what to say back to just "Hey!".

Seriously, he's just initiating a convo. Text back something like 'Hey, what's up?!'
