What do you think of colorful car rims?

So, I'm seriously considering buying this car. It's solid white with pink rims. It's a Hyundai Tiburon but my boyfriend said the rims looks weird. Lol So now I can't decide if I should get it or not.

Another thing I should add is I don't think the owner bought the rims like that, I think they had them painted pink, but it looks professionally done.

I need help making this decision so any feedback (positive or negative) about the rims or anything concerning a Hyundai Tiburon would be great! Should I get the car or not? Thanks in advance for any answers:)

Just in case any of you were wondering, I didn't get the car. I ended up getting a Ford Mustang instead (with normal rims) Lol

I used to be into the car scene with modding and all that, but I ride motorcycles now. I'm still around a lot of car guys and the painted rims fad is hit or miss. Usually it's a miss but I've seen the occasional car that actually seemed to pull it off (like this one black STI with orange painted wheels).

But yeah, more often than not it's a "point and laugh" type of situation when you see someone trying to get onboard with that fad. It will (possibly) be your car so do what you like, but me personally I don't think the fad has evolved out of anything but that "want to be edgy" thing that Honda kids do.

If you don't like the wheels, you can always have someone powdercoat them black or something like gun metal.

Okay thanks. Because I really like the car itself and it's a great price. The rims just may be a little too "out there" for me. Do you have any idea how much it would cost to have them powdercoated like you mentioned? And what would that end up looking like?

Depends on where you take them. If you post up on a local car forum, a quality job might be something like 150-200 to sand blast and coat them. Or a shop migjt charge you a little more than that. You might want to compare that cost with the cost of just getting new rims and having them mounted.

Or you could always check with the buyer and see if they could coat them for you at the expense of you coming up with your offered price (if you negotiated at all).

My only concern is will the paint hold up with all the break dust that will get on them?

Try to find out more about the paint on them. Is there a clear coat over the paint, who did the work, what type of paint was used. Then call a custom body shop & ask what they think.

I also noticed that your from the NE, what about salt on the rims.

The NE? I live in Virginia lol it snows here but not very much. And when it does snow I don't drive my car.

It's good that you're going to have it checked out. I do see on car shows where they black out the wheels to make a car (or motorcycle) look more stealth like. So it's not unheard of. Just make sure it's been done properly.

Otherwise, if you like it enjoy! No guy is going to steal a car with pink wheels. So you've got that going for you.

Haha yeah. But I found a pretty nice Toyota Celica that I might get instead. At least I wouldn't have to pay to change anything on it and it gets better gas mileage, so I'll probably just get that instead. Thanks for answering:)

The Acura RSX is a way better car.

My ex had a Tiburon, it was quite heavy on fuel and it was mostly a car to buy for it's looks and styling rather than performance.

Well I'm not a huge car person so I can't say for sure. Lol It's an older model, 2002 and I know it's not a GT. So just a regular Mustang I guess. Haha sorry if that doesn't fully answer your question.

I think you should get the car but get rid of the pink rims. I don't like the whole flashy colorful car business. Sometimes people over do it. Sometimes a nice car looks it's best when it's left untouched.

Yeah because like I mentioned on another answer, I love the car itself, it's a good price, I was just unsure about the rims.

It's up to you at the end of the day. You could always buy the car and change the rims back. Is there no way you can buy the car with the original rim colors?

I don't think so. It's a private dealer, I think they just painted the original rims this color. The answer underneath yours mentioned powder coating them black but would that work overtop of the pink?

Lol. It may well prove to be that way. It's a thing a lot of young people do. Well, you're young anyway so it's understandable. But a car like that with pink rims is gonna get attention, and not the good kind.

haha maybe. I just liked the body style of the car and it's at an affordable price for me right now. But I guess I could just get the rims re-painted black or something.

Colorful rims are pretty tacky. They cheapen the car. Get the car if the car is nice but change the rims.

Depends, I love black rims nothing to exotic, if its the cot of the car as in an orange Lamborghini with orange rims its fine, but an orange Lamborghini with blue rims, No!
