Michael Jackson or Janet Jackson, who's better music wise?

I say Michael's better, my friend says Janet is better.

What do you think? Who do you think is the better singer/

performer of the two?

By far, Michael Jackson. Also his albums were generally better. Like, much much better by leaps and bounds. Janet Jackson is good, and she's a great dancer, but her voice is weak and generally sung through the throat, and other times can get pretty nasaly when she sings, and she's admittedly quite pretty but I think that's where most of the appeal came from initially. Furthermore while she's a good, actually she's a fantastic dancer, she's got nothing on Michael, who was a powerful talent, in both singing and dancing starting from the age of about five and a half, maybe six years old. He seriously had skills.

I always thought he was better in almost every way, I just had reservations about supporting him while he was still alive. I mean seriously, whether he was guilty of all the creepy stuff he was accused of, or not, the dude sure didn't take much precaution to make himself less of a target. I'm saying even if he was innocent of a lot of the accusations, it plainly looked bad. All the time. Then there were the things he did that blatantly showed that he was crazy. So with all that, it was hard to support the guy's music while he was alive. But one thing for sure, the man had serious skills. Undeniably.

Michael was the best. The most talented Jackson in the whole goddamned family. It's not even a question.

I have another way of looking at this.

Try taking Michael Jackson's top 3 albums and compare them to Janet's top 3. Go listen to them, one after another, and really analyze them. Break them down, in terms of vocal talent, composition, range flow, and anything else you can think of. Tell me who you think is better.

Michael: Off the Wall, Thriller, Dangerous

Janet: Control, Rhythm Nation 1814, Janet

If you can't do that, if you absolutely can't listen to pop music, then try comparing accolades.

Michael Jackson was brilliant. He takes the cake w/out question. If you compare & contrast their Discographies side by side, Janet falls short. Janet has some great jams. Enough to fill up a greatest hits CD. She's sexy as hell too BUT Michael was an idea man. A dreamer. A songwriter & an icon. Michael had more to say about the world & he was melodically superior.

Michael, but only his music from the 80s, anything after that is not my thing. I don't think I've ever heard a Janet song that I liked.

I'm not a HUGE MJ fan, but he really had it going on for a while.

This shouldn't even be a question. With all due respect to Janet, Michael is one of the most important and greatest artists in music history. Actually if Janet wasn't related to Michael, would she have garnered as much success as she has?

Michael was more talented overall, but I think Michael and Janet's musical styles are different enough that I wouldn't want to compare them. I like them both, for different reasons.

I'd agree that Michael Jackson was, he had his excess baggage and his critics... but he could sing, dance and write good songs.
