What does it mean when a girl keeps to herself?

Does it just mean she's quiet or shy? I was talking with a friend of mine and I'm not sure if he's right but he said that a lot of girls who are like this usually are with abusive men or maybe had an abusive childhood. I'm not sure if he's right, but he's been with a lot of girls so I guess he knows more than I do. lol What are your thoughts?

I tend to keep to myself and I had a abusive childhood. I don't know if I would say that's the reason, its a interesting theory though. One of my girlfriends keeps to herself a lot and she was abused by her dad so I never really though of it like that before. I don't thimk its the abuse that makes us keep to ourself I think its the reaction it causes like it makes you grow o differently and you have more issues trusting people and stuff like that I think that a lot of girls that do keep to themself however are not all seen abuse maybe other things in there life made them that way. Or there just shy

Not always. I had a great childhood but I'm just introverted by nature. The shyness is brought on by a fear of being hurt by other people (emotionally, not physically) and trust issues related to a previous relationship. But in general I keep to myself because I have social anxiety.

Sounds like she is shy. There could be numerous reasons why she is shy.
