What does "Don't work too hard." mean?

Is it a good thing to say that to someone you care about and if they have been working and busy? Or would that be bad?

Also, say if somebody says this: "Well, don't overwork yourself." Would it be best to put a smile ( :) ) at the end or just leave as is - which one would show more care.

I think that it can show empathy, such as showing that you care for somebody and you don't want them to over work them selves and take it easy, perhaps take care of themselves.

I always say that to people I know.

It means don't overwork yourself. health is far more important than any pay check.
