What does it mean when a girl holds your gaze?

There is this girl at my gym whenever I pass her in the hallways or something, she holds my gaze. We both stare at each other in the eyes for a brief moment (4 - 6 seconds). She also doesn't look away when I notice and continues to look. She doesn't smile either or anything at all (remember we are at the gym). I would say I catch her looking at me than the other way around, but it's even. I'm absolutely awful at reading women who are a stranger to me so I'm just curious what it means and how to react next time. And if it seems like she is interested, how would I react specifically at the gym which is difficult. Just a smile? And no there isn't something weird on my face, or at least I don't think there is haha.

Hmm I'd say it usually means she thinks you are attractive. Next time just jump in and say "hey I've seen you around, what's you name?" and smile and keep the eye contact. Simple and easy.
