In Buddhism there is no concept of after life. Buddhism has actually very much changed after buddha. Many sects and branches got formed. But according to real buddha teaching there is no after life.
Nirvana in Buddhism means reaching that state of realisation that suffering is part of life, desires are cause of all our sufferings, and so to end our sufferings we need to end up all our desires and for that we have to follow middle path which is actually 8 set of rules to follow.
So according to buddha real teaching we can reach nirvana in this life while we are still alive and there is no after life or rebirth.
And that's why there is no concept of heaven or hell also.
I have read Suttapitaka and many sentences are mention heaven, hell and the other side of sea/river. This sentences show us that after life is real in Buddhizm.
Did u read book about Buddhizm?
I have been reading dhammapada now
No I have not read any Buddhist scriptures yet. But I have to read about Buddhism in my syllabus. And what I have known by that that there is no concept of after life or rebirth in Buddhism.
Buddhism was born as a revolution against Brahminism during that period and it was most rational idealogy. Sutpitka was the one of the first scriptures which were compiled. So i don't think it should be there.
Oh yeh now I remember, yeh heaven and hell concept is there but that heaven and hell is not about after life but it's about good life and bad life itself on earth while we are alive
And rebirth is believed as another stage of life after we attain nirvana. So it's also in same life just another stage.
But still as I have not read it's scriptures so I could be wrong. I'm willing to learn if I'm wrong.
I don't sure but I definitely know what will I do. I am gonna read again teaching of Buddha and I especialy concantrate after life.
Ok sure. Buddhism got many changes in it later on. Because in Sangha there were lots of Brahmins people who joined and in the process of oversimplifying things also because of some corruption in Sangha and many other reasons Buddhism concept got changed later on.
For example Buddha never told to do idol worship but later on one branches came what started worshipping Buddha as idol itself.
Thervada Buddhism is most closer to real Buddha teaching and real Buddhism. Also the scriptures what got compiled in first Buddhists council that is Suttapitak and one more which was set of rules to follow in monestry or by monks. So these two books you can concentrate more to know about real Buddhism.
Dhammapada says: 219. One who’s long away from home returns in safety from afar, then friends, well-wishers, kinsmen too are overjoyed at his return.
220. In the same way, with merit done when from this world to another gone those merits then receive one there as relatives a dear one come.
Ok. Thankyou for telling all this details. Now this makes me more curious to read about Buddhist scriptures. I'm adding this also in my wish list to do.
precision tnx star! gold medal.
budhism not about heaven or hell. the success is "becoming the light" not going to heaven. the failure leads to rebirth body not hell.
but if we assume budha was wise, he said a TIME LIMIT on budhism. "if women participate it will last only 500 years,". women did participate so the budhist system ended. respect for budha is to obey the time limit.
the one following it... 600 BC-500=100 bc, leading to jesus system the replacement system. just on time!!
There's no intrinsical heaven or hell in Buddhist cosmic understanding. You have 9 different stages of being, and being Nirvana is freeing yourself from it all
I think the scriptures are not as clear as you tell. Yes the primary goal is reach to nirvana but some sentences are mention heaven or hell. I am so confused.
It's just lower level of existence moving up higher and better
And your actions can deteriorate or trancend you either way.
