I’m a member of the LDS church and everyone who’s a member of the LDS church says that it’s the true church, well come to realize it, Catholics would say the same thing about their church as well as Lutherans, Protestants etc. Either there’s one true church or worse, I’m beginning to think there is no true church and that this is all just what we think. I’m afraid of the possibility that heaven is just one of those made up things, like unicorns, dragons, fairys etc. One of my biggest fears I’ve been having is the possibility that people die and there being nothing after death, it’ll be like before you were born, because what do you remember before you were born? And come to realize it, how would we have a mind of our own in heaven? There’s a reason heaven is called a better place, and I hope it really does exist, how do we know for sure heaven exists?
Well, what you're going through is what's called a test of faith. On one hand, you have to overcome your fears and submit yourself and all your concerns to your faith and dogma to overcome it that way.
On the other hand you explore your heretical beliefs, which will lead to atheism or agnosticism. In one of those when you die there will be nothing, simply the program will end like when you turn a TV off. In another rather than an eternity of nothing, which ironically is the end described by the book of revelation, it may well be a random number generator as none of us know, but there is some higher being.
Only you can overcome this test of faith that you're having, in whatever way you wind up coming out. Personally I realized that it seemed like a fairy tale to me (Catholic) but that the church does good things with no bad intentions, so I still go. Well, except the priest shuffling.

m 1 yThe matrix does seem to glitch for many people. (Permanent) Death is a usual problem to face when getting out of theism, at this point philosophy can help. Specifically Epicurus, dude has very good points made in a very short formatting about death and fear of death. That was for the rational part. If the emotional part is a problem, if suffering from anxiety on this aspect, then psychology will help, though it's a bit more complicated than reading a letter 😅

Epicurus used circular baseless reasoning that has a solution. I wrote a mytake refuted a guy quoting epicuros.

@strateguy632 I don't know what you refuted, but my point here is not about a philosophical matchup, I would keep that for philosophy classes, with pupils. My point is providing helpful thinking, on an existential and psychological level. On the topic of fear about death. And it's just about that lol

@Juxtapose I told you you were not easy LOL

@Juxtapose I don't subscribe to this opinion :D
There are many reasons as to why someone blocks someone else, anticipating them without knowing the reasons involved in the blocking under the banner of "weakness" is unreasonable. And more than that, it can be satisfying to simplify people using a system of "weak or strong?", because it is existentially comfortable to simplify yes. But that's all - 1 y
@Juxtapose We will never agree on this idea that emotion is weakness since I see a strength :D
That being said, we will probably discuss it forever since I like you haha - 1 y
Well, I can speak for my case, I blocked many people because I see no bridges possible with them and because I don't want to spectate their views, it just increases my distaste when I could have fun instead. In short, it's a benefit vs drawback matchup
1 yThere are some differences between LDS and mainstream church theology. LDS says you can only be married in the Temple. They say that everyone will be a god someday and in charge of their own planet. In a nutshell, this is the difference between Mormonism and Christianity.

What, in charge of their own planet, literally? 😅

Heaven is most likely don't exist, that exactly why most people on earth don't want to die.

1 yWe don't- that's why it's taken on faith, instead of knowledge.
As to following the "correct" Church, I wouldn't worry about it. Yes, that probably sounds very strange coming from a Catholic, but think about it: if we trust in both God's omniscience and benevolence, then He knows what we're TRYING to do, whether we fail or succeed, and will treat us accordingly. God sees hearts, not sect affiliations.

Not very catholic indeed, as in roman catholic church, since I believe you are supposed to follow Vaticano's HQ? At least loosely? Instead of going your own way about analysing god's intents and selection, that seems to be more close to protestantism? Or independent belief really

@Maybe_Maybe_not No- Catholicism isn't slavery. Nor is it an excuse to STOP thinking.

Hmmm I'd like to believe you, but how much I believe that is uncertain for now lol

1 y"One true church" means those who have faith in the book. Not "one denomination or building " that excluded other denomination.

1 yYou don't. You're using you're VALUABLE UNRECOVERABLE TIME here on a gamble and it's a bet that limits the uniqueness and dreams that are you.

The poster is hilarious, I give that 🤣
BUT it's framed right from the start ! For the sake of reason, I can redirect your own point in your direction, you could be using your VALUABLE UNRECOVERABLE TIME here on a gamble, assuming that disbelief closes heaven's gates for you, it would be a pity? No? haha
For what it's worth I am quite the anticlerical guy, but when you walk on the lands of reason to attack faith, I feel cheeky enough to interfere :D - 1 y

I go by the bible and the bible only, that distinguishes real from fake.06 Reply- 1 y
Unfortunately King James version can also be blamed for inaccuracy, deemed fake if you go back all the way to the beginning. Demonstrated here: simple.wikipedia.org/.../Bible

Narcissism is a very good point to invoke. Now when you invoke hope of immortality this way, knowing your relation to technology, you have me wondering :D

You are probably naming the origin of many confusions, for many persons, in many areas of life, out of religious views. This is inspiring :D
@Maybe_Maybe_not If I say something, it is definitely true, be sure of that.

I am actually, by default, in my philosophy, fundamentally unsure of that LOL
But I guess I was vague enough in my phrasing to spawn too many interpretations, such as yours 😅
