During some conversations he starts fidgeting or rubbing his arms nervously… but only sometimes. And a few months ago he saw me in person and got very nervous and started shaking. Other than that… the only other sign of attraction I’ve noticed is that he mirrors me quite a bit… picking up his coffee cup to take a sip when I do it…. Not sure if he’s naturally an awkward man or whether he’s attracted? But in groups of people he doesn’t seem awkward and looks more relaxed… so maybe I have an effect on him? But he also hasn’t made a move on me. Maybe he feels awkward because someone told him I like him? I dunno. Also another thing to note is that I’m more conventionally attractive than he is, so maybe he’s intimidated? I’m not sure. Also his face looks a bit red around me sometimes but I can’t tell whether he’s flushed for another reason or it’s just lighting etc.

I have heard about it. Men saying that it is women mistake if she is single is her 30s or late 20s. but how?

Because she was dating good looking dude? So women shouldn't date someone who they find attractive? Because for some reason a good looking can pump and dump you?

I mean if I started relationship with long term intention. Then isn't it his mistake if he lie?

And they always talk about giving chance to uglier nice guy. But how do you know if this niceness is fake or real. And ugly guy are capable of doing too. And second I used to be fat. I was bullied by guys because of it. I seriously don't want to have kids with a ugly dude. Because it could mean a ugly daughter. And ugly women suffer.

And why would I date someone if there is 0 attraction. Men never do it. Why should women?

If I like his personality but don't find him attractive. Then he would be a friend. I like many men and women personality. Lol

Men always imagine that it happen because women were only into short term relationship. Dude I never have been in short term relationship. Have 0 interest in hook up. But it is possible that I might be single at 30s. because men lie/cheat/abuse you. I don't think it would be good idea to stay with a guy if he beat me. Because he can beat our kids too. I don't want that for my kid's. How is my mistake if he lied about being interested in long term relationship? Or cheat?

As a matter of fact, it doesn't even have to be a dark-skinned girl, but maybe a girl who just isn't conventionally attractive or the type that your peers would want from you.

I understand that dark-skinned women aren't everyone's type. (I understand that there are studies that explicitly state that men have a natural biological attraction to lighter women predominantly.) But I also can't help but wonder sometimes if those preferences are not just natural but also nurtured or shaped socially by male peer groups.

Growing up as a dark skin girl, I remember having a lot of experiences with different men of different races being very attracted to me but almost seemingly embarrassed to be attracted to me at the same time or scared to be attracted to me in front of their family/friends. I'm wondering if one of those reasons was because they were afraid that their friends/family would have bullied or ostracized them for that.

It seems like there's this almost unwritten social mandate, largely manufactured by certain men, for men to participate in celebrating not being attracted to dark-skinned women and those men in particular also like to push this idea onto their peers as the standard/ way of thinking for success and status.

For example this attitude of: "If you date dark-skinned women, you're not successful or a loser in my eyes, get a white girl and then we can talk" type of situation.

There are also negative stereotypes about dark-skinned women being masculine, obese, unfeminine, mean, that certain men like to perpetuate further in order to pressure their friends and family into not being with a dark-skinned woman, even if dark-skinned women aren't all like these negative caricatures that they paint of them in real life.

So, as a question for the men of GAG: Have you ever been peer-pressured by your male friends into not pursuing or liking a dark-skinned girl or a girl that your friends didn't approve of?
