So, I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I've been attending this book club for the past six months or so. A month or so ago, I accepted another member's offer to meet up elsewhere, and effectively start dating her. She's a great friend; she's fun to be around, she's very intelligent, she's got a nice enough personality, and she's certainly made it clear that she finds me attractive. And as a qualified doctor and GP (whereas I'm merely a freelance editor & artist), she earns heaps more than I do as well. BUT. The woman's a fair bit older than I'd like (37yo, 7yrs older than me), and I honestly don't find her that sexually attractive myself (on a scale of 1-10, I'd rate her as a 5, 6 tops). She's also a single mother of two, with both her children (19yo daughter, 17yo son) having had different, unknown fathers. And she disappointingly seems to want nothing more from me than harmless sexual fun, no strings, no commitment.

And on that note, I've now been introduced to her kids. And having met the 19yo daughter, chatting with her quite a bit, I've found that I've got more in common with her. She's a fair bit more quiet and introverted than her extroverted, somewhat loud mum, but she's still a lot of fun, smart, hard-working and upbeat. She's also a lot more hot and attractive than her mum (a solid 9 at least). In spite of being a student at uni, she isn't into the party scene (single, "focusing on her studies"), and unlike her mum, she isn't interested in casual NSA sex either. She's also said she'd like a long-term partner to have a committed, meaningful relationship with (my preferred option too). And since I've started visiting her place, invited around to hang out and help her with editing & proofreading her essays, it feels like she's starting to get interested in me too. BUT. She's still a 1st year university student, 11yrs younger than me, and the daughter of one of my best friends, her mum, who wanted to have sex with me first. What should I do?

-A woman is interrupted by a man, he is sexist and rude. A man is interrupted by a woman, she is assertive and bold.

-A man threatens to/does assault a woman, he is violent and should be arrested. A woman threatens to/does assault a man, she is feisty and should be commended for her courage.

-A large group of mostly boys and men are kidnapped by a terrorist group, they are hostages and children. A large group of mostly girls and women are kidnapped, they are women and children.

-A boy is called "bossy", he is actually a bossy little shit. A girl is called "bossy", she just has a natural ability to lead but society is trying to put her down by calling her "bossy".

-A man doesn't want to have sex, something must be wrong with him. A woman doesn't want to have sex, it's her right.

-A man is underpaid, tough luck for him he's probably a shitty worker. A woman is underpaid, institutional sexism.

-Basically, pretty much anything bad happens to a man, tough luck for him. Pretty much anything bad happens to a woman, sexism.

I could churn out more examples all day if I had to, because I see and experience this bullshit for myself. Even on this website I see a lot of sexism, so I'm sure a lot of other guys could add to the list. Why is this accepted? What can we do about it? Is anything being done about it? Does anyone even care?
