im not talking about the old school couples, although i think there are some but i think its more prevalent in the younger generation when it comes to giving up on a marriage so easily. I am a very late bloomer when it relates to romantic relationships and marriage. I didn't get my first real girlfriend until I was 29. I am now 30 and will soon marry this same girl. Me and this girl are each other's first real relationship. I was her first kiss and everything. She is 27.

I will say my parents are separated. I have an estranged sister who is 29 who has also alienated my parents. My mom has been really hurt by this, and my sister is refusing to attend my wedding despite being invited. To me, snubbing me and my bride at my wedding is irreparable (this is a entirely different discussion). All in all, my immediate family has been torn apart for years now. My separated parents live different places, and my mom still lives around locally.

I am staying at my mom's boyfriend's house tonight (long story... we are evicting a troublesome, leftist, nasty old tenant at my home that rents the downstairs), and my mom walks into the room I am sleeping in and hugs me while crying. My mom is a little sad I am growing up and getting married. She is happy for me, but I think with all the family turmoil and me moving on (I am a mommy's boy), it is hard on her a little.

I felt a deep sense of regret, all the people I pushed away, all the problems I avoided, and now it might be too late. I bought a bottle of rum, 1 liter. I poured out 700ml of it and drank the rest. That was 80 days ago, and I haven't had one single drop since. My doctors had given up, not even bothering to schedule an appointment as they knew my cowardly behavior would simply cancel, so I didn't have to face them. After 38 days of absolute sobriety, I messaged my doctor informing her that i took her advice to heart and have removed alcohol from my life, I wanted to come in and get bloodwork done. On July 14th, it came back. ALT levels are 64, AST is 42. My liver healed faster than I ever thought possible, crushing my foolish excuse from before that I was too far gone to heal. With this, I was able to go back on Trikafta, improving my lung function greatly. I got another liver function test done on August 13th, ALT levels are 49, AST is 25. My liver is now healthier than it was a year before I started drinking. I wasn't sure I believed in God, but I prayed for my life to be spared, and I do believe he listened. I'm not sure how I want to celebrate, but you can bet it will involve a lot of family and no alcohol
