I am in my second week at a new job, I am in higher edu and this is my first time in career services. Before that, I was in academic advising at another school. My coworker is an older woman with years of experience and I am not sure how I feel about her. Last week was okay but as of this week, as you can see from other posts, she’s a bit managerial towards me. I don’t want to say bossy, but she corrects me with certain things and twice has given me feedback on very mundane things saying “work smarter not harder”. We spoke yesterday and she told me that she can tell I am fearful in doing certain things but understands my hesitation due to being new in the field. She said she does not doubt my capabilities & thinks we will make a good team. Mgmt at this job is very laid back. I mean, I feel like she and myself are going to run this department. I figured there’d be more handholding because we are only in our second week. She’s been my go-to for this time and with that feedback she provided “work smarter not harder”and providing feedback on certain tasks, I don’t want her to talk down to me. Am I being too sensitive?
