My friend recently went to the gym where she says she overheard three guys, maybe in their mid 20s talking really dirty about their supposed conquests, speaking about body parts, sex, and who was a slut/ho, what have you. She said she wanted to go over there and talk to these guys for a minute about holding an appropriate conversation (both men, women, and children were at the gym at the time) and that what they were saying was incredibly disgusting and disrespectful to women but decided against it. I told her, a mother of two young boys herself, that I understood where she was coming from, but these were strangers, who knows if they would be aggressive towards her and what not, and I doubted that at the gym in a five minute conversation, these guys would suddenly change their ways. My guy friend upon hearing the story was outraged. He felt that she as a woman, and a mother of young men, should have marched right up to them and schooled them on how one should treat a woman and not disrespecting women in the first place because (and its true) as a gentleman of the best kind, he has done this before to guys that have disrespected women. Ultimately she thought of the situation as a not my place thing, I thought of it as a we can't save everyone and a safety thing, and for him it was a, any time, any place, fight against disrespect thing. Who do you think was right?
