Even for a highly stressed or depressed person, they must still work to maintain relationships and show care for others.
If a person is barely managing their life, and in "survival mode" for years, they should be excused from showing care and interest in others.

Do people answer for real interest in the question or for the asker’s attention?

I think most of people don't want to answer interesting/good questions here but same people answer ordinary/boring questions just because they want to communicate with the asker. or at least attract to asker's attention....
