Search Results: like the same person as my cousin

My uncle and I used to be very close, he was like a 2nd father to me. About 5 years ago there was an issue amongst the family as a whole, with him being on one side and my parents being on the other side, which put a strain on our relationship. At the same time he was going through a bitter divorce which seemed to change him as a person.
He started treating me really poorly and I found out that he was saying really nasty things behind my back. His treatment really hurt and I had decided that if that's how he wanted to be, that I wanted nothing to do with him.
However, today I went to visit my grandmother. She handed me a bag that was from my uncle that contained a little stuffed toy and a note in it. The toy was one of my favorites as a baby that I gave to my cousin when she was first born. They recently moved and, since his kids are older now, he was giving it back as he thought I might want it.
I was shocked and touched that they still had it after all these years. Normally I would have no problem sending a message to say thank you. But because it's from him I'm reluctant.

After the way he treated me, he doesn't deserve me to be kind. Plus he's sneaky and I don't doubt that this is his way of trying to patch things up without having to admit the way he treated me was wrong. I just don't know that I want to open that door and have him think that things are okay. But I did appreciate the gesture.

Should I reach out or don't bother? What would you do?
