What does "bubba/buba" mean?

Usually my friends and the people I know calls me brother/brotha, man or dude etc. there are just few of friends that calls me this and those that do are guys, I never know what it means. Any definition?

I never heard of it until I started dating my husband, his whole family and close family friends calls hims "bubby" and "bubba", it's like a little nickname for "brother". They especially call him it because he's named after his father, so it'd be confusing to call out his name and have his father answer.

I use bubba/bub as a form of buddy/bud. When I call someone bubba/bub I'm being genuinely affectionate. When I call someone buddy/bud I'm usually being sarcastically affectionate.

Is bubba like a country thing? Even though I'm from Texas and hang around a lot of country people I've never heard anyone say bubba lol. Sounds like something people from Alabama or Mississippi would say,

Well like I said he is only one of the two guys who called me that and which I don't call anyone that. I don't expect anyone to be macho or alpha male but military men and guys seems to be trained to be that way.

Bubba is a southern derivation on the word "Brother" a name for a close friend or boyfriend. Originating from Bubs. Bubba implies someone special and close to your heart. Bubba is someone you turn to when you need comfort. Your Bubba is always there for you.

It depends on the use, if used in a positive manner it means brother. If used in as an attack it is a slur for a white conservative male. You are calling them a stereotypical uneducated assertive right wing aligned man from the southern United States. In more basic terms you are calling them stupid and someone who possibly has romantic relations with their family members.
